A Heavenly Couple

On Friday March 11th, 2022 the world lost an angel and Heaven gained one. My Nanan, Margaret Gibson, peacefully walked through the pearly gates and along the streets of gold to spend eternity with her love, my Pop, Peter James Gibson.

The woman that taught me everything about etiquette, British culture and food. Nanan was the best cook in the family famed by her mince meat pies and Bakewell tart. Despite the fact she had Celiac’s disease, she still worked in the kitchen for hours to make the dishes that her family loved! She was always a very soft hearted woman that encouraged me to believe in myself.

Margaret was born in Sheffield, England, to her parents, Walter and Winnifred Williams. She met her husband early in life and they courted until 1963 when they said their vows. It was 1964 in Sheffield, England when Margaret gave birth to their first born, Steven James Gibson. Dreaming of starting his own business, Peter came to Pennsylvania, USA to get a job and arrange housing for his family. During the time apart Peter and Margaret would call each other and leave messages on tape. Luckily Margaret held onto these tapes so that she could show her children and grandchildren someday. Shortly after settling into their home in PA, Margaret gave birth to their baby girl, Helen Gibson.

They moved their family to Franklin, PA where their children grew and graduated high school. Once their children were full grown, Peter and Margaret moved south to West Palm Beach, FL where Peter continued with his construction business and Margaret got involved with the Turtle Sanctuary of Singer Island Turtle Club. They retired and moved back to Meadville, PA just down the road from Steven. Family was a huge part of their lives and they wanted to spend time with their five grandchildren. I will always treasure the memories of her homemade dinners and afternoon tea. Playing cards around the table all night long being the goofballs that we came to know and love as our grandparents. She will greatly be missed.

Dedicated to Nanan and Pop
