Great Vacation Destinations on the East Coast

Every once and a while, my wife and I take a road trip to a new place we’d like to visit. This year we decided on Annapolis, MD and Rehoboth Beach, DE. Even though the weather wasn’t very cooperative we had an amazing time and would love to go back anytime!

My wife sneakily snags a picture of me as I step into the ocean for the first time in two years… I really missed it!

Our first stop was Rehoboth Beach, many know it as the place where craft beers became popular. Also home to one of the greatest boardwalks on the East Coast, which is where you will find the famed Dogfish Head Brewery and Restaurant. With so many incredible cuisines to choose from, it was very easy to find delicious meals! The first night on the boardwalk we dined on the patio at Lupo’s Italian Kitchen. Bringing me back to my Italian heritage, the food was amazing and authentic! In the mornings we found ourselves waiting in line to get the highly sought after donuts at The Fractured Prune. Definitely write this place down as a must go! It’s similar to a Krispy Kreme shop, the way a cybertronic machine pumps out the batter into the fryers, and flips the perfectly cooked cake donuts onto a conveyor belt. The donuts are then distributed to the “Dippers” who soak the still hot donuts into one of their 30 magnificent flavors. If you want to eat on the water there is a beautiful, quaint, little town right next to Rehoboth called Lewes. This is where we found The Wheelhouse, situated on one of the canals with a covered deck to protect us from the rain that was ruining our beach time at Henlopen State Park.

My sister-in-law carried her friend through the sand at Henlopen State Park because her friend had developed blisters from walking up and down the boardwalk the night before! What an amazing friend!

After a few days we were ready to move on to Annapolis, MD which was only two hours away! The drive was peaceful through the countryside of Delaware, and as soon as you can see the Chesapeake Bay… it’s breathtaking! When we arrived in Annapolis we moved into our room at the The Graduate which was a beautiful hotel only 1/4 of a mile to the historic district. While exploring the first day we found a restaurant, Carrol’s Creek Café, with a huge marina and tons of sailboats, just across the sound was the Annapolis Yacht Club. Walking through the historic district is a full days worth of shopping, eating, and sightseeing! Annapolis is a very peaceful place to visit and ideal for families. If you are into live music or concerts, check out the Rams Head Tavern, one of the highest rated small venues. Before the entertainment stop into the pub for great eats! Do you love crab cakes? Make sure you stop in at the world famous Boatyard Bar and Grill!
