My Fave 5 Fall Brews

With the fall season in full swing, and Halloween just around the corner, I figured you could use a few pointers on what to stock your fridge with. To me, fall beers aren’t just pumpkin, they are any kind of beer with a bold flavor that makes me hear rustling leaves, smell fresh apple pie, or think about the sweet treats of Trick-or-Treat.

The Fear

from Flying Dog Brewery

Yeah I know, I said they weren’t all pumpkin, but The Fear IPA (Imperial Pumpkin Ale) stands out from other pumpkin brews. Flying Dog mixes pumpkin into the beer at a 6:1 ratio! It’s bites boldly at 9%ABV not too sweet with a nice subtle spice. 45 IBU

Warlock

from Southern Tier Brewing

A beautifully brewed pumpkin stout that hints at pumpkin pie, coffee, and dark chocolate. Pairs well with spicy BBQ, smoked meats or cheeses, and for an adult treat throw it in a float with vanilla ice cream! Sweeter than its cousin Pumking, it’s still kickin’ at 8.6% ABV and 40 IBU

Sweet Baby Jesus

from DuClaw Brewing

Although it’s not technically a seasonal brew, all I think about when drinking it is sorting through all of the Halloween candy to find the coveted king size Reese’s! This chocolate peanut butter porter is best enjoyed as a dessert brew. It’s sweeter than most at only 33 IBU and still potent enough at 6.2% ABV

Gonzo

from Flying Dog Brewery

Another year-round brew, that gives me fall vibes is the fiesty Gonzo Imperial Porter. It’s a heavenly mix of roasted chocolate, brown sugar, and vanilla malt. All of that sweet but an astonishing 85 IBU and 10%ABV. Pairs best with chili, coffee or chocolate desserts, and smoked meats.

Harvest

from Southern Tier Brewing

This IPA brings a lot to the Thanksgiving table. A spicy mix of pine, grapefruit undertones, and fresh hops makes Harvest a notably versatile beer. Pairs well with venison, Mac and cheese, and stews. With 6.7%ABV and 55 IBU it makes for a delectable fall beverage.
