Finding A hobby

“Why Should I look for a hobby?”

Hobbies are so incredibly important to enjoying your downtime to the fullest. When I say hobby, I mean anything you enjoy doing that you can stop and start, or do at your own pace. I have a hobby addiction as my family says… I have sooooo many hobbies and not enough time to do them all! A lot of my hobbies I have combined and turned into a bit of a side hustle (or at least attempting to). I love fishing, woodworking, writing, web design, videography, etc. Lucky for me most of those hobbies work in sync with each other. Basically it doesn’t matter if you have one hobby or one hundred hobbies. If you have a bunch of extra time and don’t know what to do, try one of these popular hobbies!

Fishing -

Any type of fishing is a great type of hobby for someone that loves being outdoors, enjoys being around the water, and doesn’t mind getting a little bit of fish slime on their hands! Take it from me, I have been addicted to fishing since is was just a little 6 year old boy fishing with my grandpa after school. If you want to stick to the broad hobby of fishing that is awesome, however there are very specific types of fishing that many hobby seekers tend to lean towards.

Fly fishing -

Fly fishing is one of the most peaceful types of fishing, quietly standing in the river trying to quietly cast to skittish trout. Of course if you are just starting out in fly fishing you need to be aware that your patience will be tested! It takes a ton of practice to cast properly and target fish. That being said, the harder you work for it, the sweeter the reward is when you catch that huge brown trout.

Fly Tying -

Fly tying is a detailed and satisfying art of making artificial flies for fly fishing. So if you are looking for more of an artistic hobby but you love the outdoors then this might be for you! It involves carefully attaching feathers, fur, and other materials to hooks to imitate natural insects and baitfish. This allows anglers to make personalized flies for specific fishing conditions. It's a mix of craftsmanship and usefulness, creating both a fishing tool and a unique artwork. Whether for the pleasure of tying or the excitement of a good catch, fly tying is a tradition that still fascinates fishing fans worldwide.

Cooking -

Cooking is another hobby if you have a bit more of an artsy side, of course it also helps if you love food, but then again who doesn’t?! Cooking as a hobby lets you experiment and create recipes. It also makes the “chore” of everyday cooking seem a little more fun. Get inspired by new foods, push the boundaries, and try new things. If you want to start out by cooking recipes that is completely okay! Try out some of my recipes on Cramer Cooks.

Woodworking -

Woodworking may be one of the oldest hobbies in the world, people have been making things out of wood for millenia. Get creative with woodworking, a timeless craft for making functional art like furniture and outdoor structures. It's a therapeutic and fulfilling way to express yourself and hone your skills. Woodworking gives the artisanal touch to anything you make! After all, handmade gifts are the best gift to give!

Wood Turning -

Wood turning is a captivating and age-old hobby that involves shaping wood into symmetrical and intricate designs using a lathe. Skilled wood turners utilize various tools to carve, cut, and shape the wood while it spins on the lathe, resulting in stunning creations such as bowls, vases, and decorative spindles. The process requires patience, precision, and a deep understanding of different wood types and grain patterns. Each piece showcases the natural beauty of the wood, and the rhythmic motion of turning creates a sense of peacefulness and connection to the materials. Wood turning is not just a hobby; it's an art form that celebrates the timeless appeal of working with wood.
